Our Privacy Philosophy
Emoodjee is built on a simple belief: emotional data is the most sensitive personal data that exists. We treat it that way. Privacy is not a feature we added — it is the foundation everything else is built on.
We will never sell your emotional data to advertisers, researchers, or any third party. Not today. Not ever.
What We Collect
When you use Emoodjee, we store the following data to provide and improve the service:
- Mood entries — your selected emoji, sentence (max 140 characters), timestamp, and AI-generated mood intensity score
- Auto-tags — emotion cluster, time of day, day of week, and contextual tags generated by the AI
- Weekly syntheses — AI-generated weekly narratives including headlines, patterns, recurring themes, and suggested actions
- Account data — email address or third-party sign-in identifier (Google or Apple) required to create your account
- Subscription status — managed through RevenueCat to process your premium subscription
- Analytics and crash reports — via Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. We track screen views, feature usage events (e.g. check-in completed, paywall shown), and crash data to improve the app. These events never include your emotional content, sentences, or emoji selections
- Device information in feedback — when you submit feedback, we collect your app version, platform, OS version, device model, and locale to help us diagnose issues
- Sleep data (optional, Apple Health) — if you enable the Apple Health integration, Emoodjee reads Sleep Analysis samples (read-only) so your check-ins and weekly insights can notice how rest shapes your mood. You can revoke access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Emoodjee
- Weather and approximate location (optional) — if you enable the weather integration, Emoodjee uses your approximate location (when-in-use only) to fetch the local weather condition and temperature for your check-in. We do not store your raw GPS coordinates; only the resolved weather summary is attached to the entry
Apple Health (HealthKit)
The Apple Health integration is optional and disabled by default. When you enable it, Emoodjee requests read-only access to Sleep Analysis through HealthKit. We use this data solely to enrich your own check-ins and weekly insights — for example, to notice whether shorter nights tend to coincide with lower-mood days.
In line with Apple’s HealthKit requirements, we do not use HealthKit data for advertising, marketing, or any other data-mining purposes, and we do not sell or share HealthKit data with any third party. HealthKit data is never sent to advertising networks or analytics providers. Sleep values used to generate your insights are processed by our AI provider (Google Gemini) under the same terms described in “AI Processing” below; Google does not use API inputs to train their models.
You can revoke HealthKit access at any time from iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Emoodjee, or by turning the integration off in the app. Disabling the integration stops future reads; previously attached sleep values on past entries can be removed by deleting those entries.
Location & Weather
The weather integration is optional and disabled by default. When you enable it, Emoodjee uses your device’s when-in-use location to fetch the local weather condition and temperature for the moment of your check-in. We do not track your location in the background and we do not store your raw GPS coordinates — only the resolved weather summary (e.g. “cloudy, 18°C”) is saved with the entry.
You can revoke location access at any time from iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Emoodjee, or by turning the integration off in the app.
What We Never Collect
- Background or continuous location — location is only read at the moment of a check-in, and only if you enable the weather integration
- Health data beyond Sleep Analysis — even with the Apple Health integration enabled, we only read sleep samples and never request access to other health categories
- Contact lists or phone data
- Browsing activity or data from other apps on your device
How Your Data Is Stored
Your entries are stored securely in your private account, encrypted at rest and in transit using TLS 1.3 or higher. Your emotional data is never accessible to other users or exposed publicly.
AI Processing
Our AI generates personalized insights based on your entries. To produce micro-responses and weekly syntheses, your entry data (emoji, sentence, intensity, and recent context) is sent to Google’s Gemini AI service. Google processes your data under their API terms and does not use API inputs to train their models. Before any data is sent to the AI service, you are asked for explicit consent during onboarding. You can disable AI insights at any time in Settings.
AI-generated responses are stored alongside your entries in our database. We log AI usage (model used, timestamps) for rate limiting and service reliability — these logs do not contain your emotional content.
We do not use your emotional data to train general-purpose AI models. Your entries improve your personal experience only.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase — authentication and cloud database (encrypted at rest and in transit)
- Google Gemini — AI service that processes your entries to generate micro-responses and weekly syntheses. Entry data (emoji, sentence, and recent check-in history) is sent via their API; Google does not use API inputs for model training
- RevenueCat — subscription management only; does not receive emotional content
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics — anonymous usage analytics and crash reporting. These services receive your user ID and feature usage events but never your emotional content, sentences, or emoji selections
- Google Sign-In & Apple Sign-In — optional OAuth authentication. We receive only your name and email address from these providers
- Open-Meteo — weather data provider. When the optional weather integration is enabled, your approximate coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo’s API to retrieve the local weather condition and temperature. Open-Meteo does not require an account, and we do not send any account identifiers, mood content, or health data with the request
We do not integrate any advertising SDKs. None of the services above receive your raw emotional content except Google Gemini, which processes it solely to generate your personal insights. All third-party services listed above provide data protection standards equal to or exceeding our own.
Data Sharing
We do not share your emotional data with any third party — advertisers, data brokers, researchers, or otherwise — without your explicit, per-action consent. The only exception is where required by law (e.g., a valid court order), and we will notify you unless legally prohibited from doing so.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Delete — permanently delete your account and all associated data directly from Settings. Deletion is immediate and irreversible
- Delete entries — remove individual mood check-ins at any time from within the app
- Access — view all your mood entries, insights, and weekly syntheses within the app. For a machine-readable copy of your data, contact us
- Correct — request correction of your personal information by contacting us. Individual mood entries cannot be edited but can be deleted and re-entered
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at our support page.
Push Notifications
With your permission, Emoodjee can send gentle check-in reminders and weekly insight notifications. You can enable or disable these individually in Settings. We do not send promotional or advertising notifications. All scheduled notifications are cancelled when you delete your account.
Biometric Data
Premium users can enable Face ID or fingerprint protection. This biometric data is handled entirely by your device’s operating system — Emoodjee never receives, stores, or transmits biometric data.
Children’s Privacy
Emoodjee is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We will notify you of material changes to this privacy policy via in-app notification and email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of Emoodjee after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
